Following on from the submission of an outline planning application submitted by Building Partnerships Ltd and Carter Jonas LLP, Babergh Mid Suffolk District Council has, on the 3rd of January, resolved to grant planning permission (subject to the completion of a s106 agreement – anticipated by the middle of February 2018) for up to 32 acres (13ha) of business and industrial development (use Class B1a, B1b, B1c, B2 & B8) along with a family pub / restaurant (up to 540m2 of floor area under an A4 Use Class) and two drive-thru restaurants (up to 425m2 floor area under an A3/A5 Use Class) with associated infrastructure works. The total proposed area for the park will be 37 acres (14.97ha).
A planning application has also been lodged for the construction of a ‘Link Road’ access between Gateway 14 land and Stowmarket East. This application is pending determination.
Mid Suffolk District Council has previously allocated the site for employment development within the Stowmarket Area Action Plan (Feb 2013). The allocation policy defines employment used as predominantly port related including B1 (light industrial/business), B2 (general industrial), and B8 (storage and distribution) uses. In addition the allocation allows for the provision of open space, leisure and recreation uses and ‘Sui Generis Uses and those within Use Class D commonly found on business parks’.
There is strong support for the scheme from within the Local Planning Authority and the Council’s Economic Development Officers with the head of Economic Development at Mid Suffolk District Council confirming his support for the proposed development.
